OpenViX 5.0 released!

$

OpenViX 5.0 is based on the OE-Alliance v4.0 core. You cannot perform an online update if you are currently on OpenViX 4.x or older.
You can download and then flash the newer images using the USB method or simply by using Image Manager.

You can restore settings and plugins from OpenViX 4.2 series images after you have flashed the image. This will restore most things to how you had them before.

RESTORE PROCESS WILL NOT RESTORE PLUGINS THAT ARE NOT ON THE CURRENT PLUGIN SERVER. THESE MUST BE INSTALLED MANUALLY.

There are many guides to flash/restore. Here is another
http://www.world-of-satellite.com/sh...p-and-Restores

So what is different in OpenViX 5.0 then?
OpenViX 4.2 build 030 was the final build in the 4.2 series.

The numbering of the image series has been segregated from the branch of the OE-Alliance the image is built from. So as time moves on and things get updated/new branches created, we will bump the numbers to suit. This will prevent online updates when a reflash is required.

As with previous images, the main differences are core of the image or the OE (Open Embedded). This has undergone a lot of changes, updates and fixes. As a user you should not notice many differences between previous images and OpenViX 5.0 (i.e. there are not many functional differences.)

Features/Updates

GUI resize/position redesigned to make it clearer and easier. (Thanks to Isoz)
New change log system. Change log is clearer and info is read directly from GitHub api.
Multi-stream support (this requires multistream capable hardware, for e.g.: TBS USB Tuners, SF4008).
Multitype tuner support (this requires combo tuners, for e.g.: OS Mini+, OS Mega).
ATSC support.
Restore process now also restores plugins that are on the plugin server. Kernel restrictions have been removed. This means you can restore settings and plugins using 4.2 backups.
GStreamer update to 1.11.2
OSD - Time/date display changes (Thanks to Isoz)
Recordings take priority over streaming to clients.
Fallback - Fallback tuner settings moved to Service searching menu into its own menu
Fallback - Remote bouquets copier (Channel Importer). For receivers used as clients, copies and loads the channel list from the server box.

Gigablue Ultra UE, X1 & X3 images will be delayed due to a driver issue affecting recording and timeshifting. Once fixed these will be released.

Some 3rd party plugins may not be currently compatible with OE-A 4.1x core, streaming plugins may require their respective author's to add dependencies for GST 1.xx.

Hi

I am hoping to upgrade to the new openvix and you can not restore your old settings. I am fine setting up from scratch but is there anyway i can transfer my existing timers. I have so many that took me ages to configure and memorizing all of them and then setting them again would take so long. Is there a way?

Thanks

[TM-TWIN-OE] No problems with 5.0.001 flash on my TM boxes

1. ViX 5.0.001 flashed on three TM boxes without a problem earlier this morning, including a slightly newer TM Nano-SE M2 Plus.

2. IMO, GStreamer update has improved response times on several streaming plugins.

3. Nice to have Fallback configuration in its own folder within Service Searching - makes sense to me at least!

4. Still 'messing around' with the new image, but haven't found anything else yet that is a noticeable change.

5. Boot image is very crisp, but, as usual, don't want to see it very often!

6. Hope that all box users have as good a transition as I have, but, inevitably, there will be some hiccups along the way!

Many thanks to the ViX team for the launch of yet another image series!

I've tried to flash my octagon 4k with the new openvix 5. tried the image (on its own) & with the recovery files that TWOL put up (partition.update and update.bin, also tried different usb sticks but nothing.

used the below method (also tried usb in front and back) & video on yout**e

Firmware update Manual OCTAGON SF4008 UHD E2

a) Format USB Storage to FAT32 File system. b) Unpack Firmware. c) Copy Folder sf4008 to USB Storage. d) STB Turn off from Power Switch. e) Connect USB Storage to STB (front). f) Turn on STB from Power Switch. g) Press Power Button on front panel. h) The image is now written, takes about 2-3 minutes. i) Upon completion, the system will be rebooting.

currently working on openatv 6.0 which runs fine. I believe that theres no bootloader to put on, just flash as normal.

Hi. Just flashed my Uno 4K to Vix 5 and tried to install Chromium from the plugins. I now have a youtubetv option under the menu but when I try and launch it I get a black screen for a few seconds and then it quits back to the vix menu. I am not sure chromium installed correctly as it seemed to take a while and there seemed to be some warnings flashed up. Can anyone help please?

[VU+ Ultimo4K] lcd4linux

Hi!

And thanks a lot for version 5, every thing seems to work smooth on Ultimo4k.
However, I did see somewhere in the forum (sorry, can't remember where...) that an upgrade of lcd4linux was planned in coming releases.
It seems that it's still same version as in 4.2.030, I think the lcd4linux version is still 4.7-r2.
It works bad with some settings, I did found version 4.7-r6 somewhere on the interwebb, and manually installed it, and it works fine.
After that al worked perfect I did a software upgrade, and it told me that there is 1 pack for upgrade,
I installed it, and then lcd4linux didn't work any more, so I suppose the upgrade did downgrade lcd4linux.
If it's possible, please upgrade lcd4linux in coming releases.

[GiGaBlue QUAD] Subtitle key (opt) on rcu is not subtitle anymore and can't be set at button setup

The subtitles key (OPT) on Quad rcu is not subtitle anymore, it's network setup now (or something like that). And I can't set it in button setup, it shows the no sign. Same thing happened with 4.2.029 which had new drivers and linux kernel.

Oscam-ymod does not work either, same thing, stopped working in 4.2.029. Can you tell me which emu works in Quad 5.0.001.

It was a couch update and I restored settings and plugins from 4.2.026.

I've searched every menu I can think of but can't find anywhere to specify 12h or 24h clock format for the front panel lcd. Can anyone help please?

Currently 24h and I'd like it to be 12.

Thanks,

Steve

[SF4008] Using S2 & T2 tuners

I am very pleased to see that Vix is now available for the Octagon SF4008. Thank you for the effort involved.

If I have Vix on an Octagon SF4008 with both S2 and T2 tuners, can I create a bouquet with a mix of satellite and terrestrial channels and then switch from a terrestrial channel to a satellite channel just like I might switch between channels on different satellites?

Could I scan individual terrestrial muxes in just the same way as I can scan individual transponders?

How would I get epg data for the Freeview channels?

(I have just bought a new Samsung TV which, unlike the product description on the Samsung web site, came with an S2 as well as a T2 tuner. However I have found that you can only use one or the other. If you want to change from one tuner to the other, you loose all the channels stored for the old tuner, and have to 'automatically' rescan all the channels for the other one.)

Hi all, When I use the record button I used to get two options; timer and auto timers but know I get about five options ie to extend the recording etc. What do I need to change to get it back to the two timers.
Thanks
