Vu duo PSU

Another issue with another dodgy and dangerous vu duo. How this box was ever allowed to be sold is beyond me. My box started buzzing the other day. Turned it off immediately, opened box up to reveal insides and turned it on again, same buzzing with bright bliding sparks coming from one of the pins where the power cable inserts. If you are looking from behind the box it would be the left pin.

Not sure if I even want to try to repair thIs, I can solder pretty well but should this be fixed, replaced or binned?

raspap usb erroring when dongle is plugged

Hi All, I'm trying to build a AP so I can bypass AP isolation for a friend. When installing raspap I configured everything default, configured WPA supplicant with exclusion of wlan0 as that'll be used for uap0 And wlan1 is the client nic headed north to public wifi.

When I leave the dongle out raspap starts fine and waits for a wifi nic to be added into wlan1

I've tried commenting out nl80211 from my /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf and it fails completely with or without the usb wifi adapter plugged in.

If I comment out the wpa supplicant file network the AP fails completely since it doesn't understand where to connect to since it's commented out.

here's the journal dump for hostapd and where I'm stuck at the moment. I really don't want to give this thing away and say "look just plug the little wifi dongle in 30 seconds later" because they will have to do this every day when they power off their workspace.

Could Starlink sats have amateur radio payloads onboard?

IIRC the Starlink satellites will weigh about a 100kg. There are amateur radio satellites in orbit that weigh less than 10kg. Starlink is said to use frequencies over 10GHz, while the highest-frequency amsats operate at is roughly 1.7GHz, with 145MHz and 435MHz being the standards. It seems like the Starlink constellation wouldn't suffer if at least a few of the thousands of planned satellites had additional equipment onboard. Maybe not voice repeaters, but just CW (morse code) beacons to transmit telemetry (power level, battery temperature, sun exposure, etc etc). This could also have a practical use; if for some reason the satellite misbehaved and it's >10GHz antenna array rotated the wrong way, it would be much easier to contact it at lower frequencies and give it commands.

Idk maybe I'm just dreaming but I think this could be a nice PR stunt, to allow beginners, radio amateurs or students all over the world to somehow interact with the satellite. I mean, the guy behind this whole project sent his car to the asteroid belt so...

Hi, I'm missing support for CCcam in Vix image 5.2.039. It comes up with OScam on my VuDuo2 after flashing.
If it is removed by purpose, which is the latest VIX image that contains support for CCcam for VUDuo2 ?

How much of a difference can upgrading the RAM do for you (DDR3)?

Hi. So I've been running this computer for a good 5 years now. Actually a computer I've bought used from my friend, but the specs at that time were great and he gave me a pretty damn good price for it. The specs had 8GB DDR3 RAM, i5-4670k @ stock, and I pretty much used my old video card (GTX 570) for it to start. Upgraded the video card to a GTX1060 3GB, shortly after playing PUBG during the early days, although it honestly didn't seem to help very much.

Soon, I then realized the RAM sticks were never placed in their proper positions to utilize dual channel. That change increased my FPS noticeably (at least 10), and there were less stutters overall, even in other games. It's crazy because I thought there was no way with my specs should be stuttering like this after reading a lot of forum posts sharing similar specs and run it with more FPS. And it wasn't just in PUBG either.

I troubleshooted with MSI Afterburner to see the temps and all that, noticed that my RAM while playing would exceed the amount I actually had. I don't know how really describe it but I'm sure you guys would know what I mean. I think it's enabled via RAM usage? Anyways, I've noticed it's almost always at least 90% usage. If I have Chrome on, it's definitely going over 90% usage.

Another thing I've noticed today was that the RAM frequency is @ 799MHz. I'm guessing that's normal if you're running dual channel right? How much of a difference would upgrading from 8GB to 16GB be for all those games I'm hitting close to 100% in, and how much of a difference would 1600MHz be vs 1866MHz?

Any help will be appreciated!

[SF8008] Help needed setting up satellites

$

Hi,
I received my new Octagon SF8008 from World of Satellite yesterday, patched with the latest OpenViX firmware but I am still struggling to set up my satellites correctly on my motorised system.
I can get my dish to 28°E but when I try to scan for channels the dish moves to about 16°E.
Can someone please explain how to lock the satellite to 28°.

Also, I have installed cccam.ipk but have no idea how to install my clines.
Again, could someone please explain how to do this.

Thank for looking,
ferez

Vix crashing when viewing 4:2:2 feed over network

$

Hi all,

Me and a friend both have an Octagon SF8008 and are running the latest OpenVix image. We have both experienced box crashes throughout the week when viewing a 4:2:2 feed over the network through VLC (via OpenWebif). I initially thought the first crash was due to both viewing the feed over VLC and recording to a HDD at the same time but this has since happened a further three times, when solely viewing the feed over the network using Openwebif.

I have used the box for about 2 weeks and viewing normal broadcast channels is fine, it just doesn't seem to like 4:2:2 feeds. I don't know whether its the feed itself or the fact that I'm viewing it using OpenWebif > VLC, that is causing the box to hang. Me and my friend both get the spinning 'ViX' image in the left hand corner of the screen and the only way to overcome it is by toggling the power by the switch.

The feed is opened with a valid BISS key and at first I suspected the crashes were linked to the softcam being used to read 'constant.cw'. However, the box crashed when I used both Oscam-EMU & NCam to read the constant.cw file. (both not running at the same time)

I've attached my logs and a screenshot showing the plugins I have installed.

Any help would be most appreciated as I've not had this happen on any other receiver/image.

[GiGaBlue QUAD] latest images not opening cable

$

I've tried on several occasions in the last few months to update to the latest build. Tried again today to update to 5.2.40
The 5.2 images don't seem to be able to handle cable on my box. channels either dont open at all or they do and they are heavily pixelated.
Going back to an early 5.1.xx build solves the issue.

Has anyone had this experience with the latest builds?
